Quality issues caused by thin film corona
Problems that may arise during thin film corona treatment include:
The film becomes brittle: If the injection power is too high during the corona treatment, the secondary valence bond force between the film molecules may be affected, making the film brittle and affecting the use effect. Especially when rolling capacitors, the edges cannot be rolled evenly, which reduces production efficiency.
Waste liquid pollution: Substances such as electrons and ozone produced by corona treatment may combine with water molecules in the air to form waste liquid containing nitrite and nitrate components. If these waste liquids are not cleaned up in time, they may contaminate the membrane surface and reduce the wetting tension and adhesion of the membrane.
Improper temperature control: During corona treatment, the membrane surface temperature should be controlled within an appropriate range. Too low a temperature may result in insufficient energy for polarization and chemical changes of molecules on the membrane surface, affecting the surface tension.
Corona intensity and treatment time control: Excessive corona treatment time may lead to excessive surface tension of the film, embrittlement or even degradation, which is not conducive to subsequent processing of the film.
Equipment problems: including non-parallelness of the corona treatment roller and electrode, inconsistent tension during film operation, etc. These will lead to uneven corona treatment and affect the wetting tension and adhesion of the film.
Back corona: For thinner films, air may be brought into the back at high speeds, causing back corona and affecting the processing effect.
Uneven processing: Uneven electrode gaps may lead to uneven processing in the left and right direction of the film width.
Equipment overheating: Generator cabinet overheating may be caused by a clogged fan filter or a fan that is in reverse motion.
Ozone problem: A strong ozone smell may be caused by improper air volume matching of the exhaust fan, reverse fan rotation, or blocked pipes.
Dirty electrodes: Dirty electrode units will affect discharge uniformity and may cause electrode damage.
Film corona breakdown: Corona breakdown may cause polyureaates or additives to float on the film surface, affecting the fastness of the heat seal layer. At the same time, excessive corona value may cause adhesion of the film layer and affect the subsequent composite process.
Poor heat sealing: Insufficient corona treatment may result in no significant improvement in film surface wettability, poor ink adhesion, and poor heat sealing.
The above issues need to be strictly controlled and managed during the corona treatment process to ensure the quality of the film and the feasibility of subsequent processing.
